PLEASE
To KEMOSABE65 and redadele1....

Shut the hell up and keep your opinions to yourselves. You guys sound like little girl IRS agents.

Take your skirts off and get back to fishing.

Great fish.

That Trout is a BEAST Brandon. Congrats. Also like the way you handle the negativity. Please post pics when it gets back from the Taxidermist.

My big catch
Thanks for showing me the real way to pose for a trout picture. I'll be sure to keep a scale and digital camera on me from now on! I've been saltwater fishing for 5 years now. I'm originally from Baton Rouge, and just recently moved to Lake Charles. I just started fishing big lake 4 weeks ago. I've finally learned a few spots and started putting fish in the boat. I pulled up to one of my new spots on the south end of the lake around 5 pm 7/25/2010. There was another boat fishing further out than i usually fish, so i killed my outboard sooner than usual and trolled on in, to be courteous.

After making a few cast, the other boat fired up and left. There was a serious storm brewing about 15 miles North West. I ignored the storm and started fishing. I made a couple casts and put a nice 4 lb trout in the boat. I was super excited because this had been the biggest fish I'd caught so far! I stayed on my spot, after about 4 casts I hooked the Big Gal! I thought she may have been a red at first hook. I then felt the side to side thrashing and knew it felt like a big speck! After about 20 seconds she made her first appearance about 20 ft from the boat. Her head was Huge and could only bring it about 6 inches out of the water because her massive body was weighing her down.

This is when I got super excited! She wasn't happy to be hooked, and made that very apparent. She was screaming drag from my Shimano Calcutta. As I frantically tried to unhook the rubber bungee cord I use to fasten my net to the side of my boat. Unhooking this net was very hard. I only had one free hand to use because i had the big gal on the line in my right hand! I fought the rubber bungee strap for about 60 seconds as my hands shook with nervousness and excitement. My attempts to loosen the strap were interrupted 3 separate times, as the fish made hard runs all around the boat.

I finally got the strap unhooked! By this time, i figured she didn't have much fight left in her. I netted her, only to see that she was way too long for the net. As i tried to bring her into the boat she jumped frantically back for the water 2 or 3 times. I almost dropped her back into the water! I finally got the fish into the boat. I threw her in the live well and tried to calm down a little while. I decided to keep fishing despite the loud banging of thunder clouds getting closer and closer. I put a couple more trout in the boat and headed for the launch.

It was an hour and a half before i finally got her measured and weighed. I thought she would be about 8 lbs, but the scale proved me wrong! I was so surprised I had caught such a big fish! She was definitely going to the taxidermist! I dropped her off at Steve German's taxidermy art in West Lake the next day. I get her back around Christmas. Until then, I'll practice up on my big trout poses. Hopefully there will be more to come. Thanks for all the comments and help. Good luck on Big Lake.

Best,

Brandon Picou

I don't know
I don't know or care how much that fish weighs, but I really do want to know what the heck a 'professional weight and measure team' is!?!

Bro, if you just learned 'the pose' that fish could pass for 12 lbs. Arms straight out, fingers barely visible and flaring the gills out...let the belly sag... You might have caught a beauty there, but you have a lot to learn about fish pictures! Ha!

Awesome trout Brandon
Beautiful trout Brandon, usually the ones questioning the trout haven't caught trout over 25' plus inches....

Everytime we bring 24-27' trout to the tables which isn't always often to clean people come up an are like how much does that trout way some would say 4 some would say 9 but my biggest is 7.4 lbs with a whole alot over 6 and hundreds over 5 lbs,

my point is John's trout is being held up by a boga and the belly lays across his hands, which makes for a great picture, and an awesome catch.. when you catch a trout that big you better get good pics especially if you decide to later on mount it..

Brandon't trout definetly has the lenght and since he is not holdin the trout close to the camera like some people do to make their trout look bigger than usual, it makes his look smaller, and he is using a camera phone which doesn't help,

however look at the tail spread, and also Brandon is cupping the belly in his hand and you can almost see Brandon's whole body in the pic most people that know how to take good fish pics you only see thier shirt and usually barely there arms in the pics, look how much background you can see, had Brandon not put a weight I would have guess 8 lbs 3 ozs.,

however I believe him also he may have fished all day and weighed it later on and trout can and do lose up to 8 ozs if not weighed right away, if you are not use to catching big trout you would know he is not holding it close to the camera like most do, that trout has some serious length and had he not held the belly instead of stretched it, you would see it had a stomach too,, great fish brother...

Cut him some slack just say great catch and instead of judging who and what you don't know, if someone close to you was in this pic a good friend, or a guide instead of Brandon would you question them, I didn't think so, this is the kind of negativety that over the years have brought so much trouble to this site,

, I think just like John Rucker's fish he should make a page in next months sportsman, my only thing to you is Brandon tell us the story make the picture better how what and when did you hook her , had you explained a great story less would have questioned you. Are you going to mount her , tell us the story of this great catch..

Century Man out

yeah
after looking at John's i am sure it is the weight stated. they are similar in length and the heads are similar as is the tail. plus if you notice he is holding the stomach so it would be hanging lower otherwise... both of those are super sized trout

Thanks!
Thanks for the congrats! I was fishing by myself when i caught this monster. She made about 6 runs when she got close to the boat. Around the motor, under the boat, from front to back. I had a hard time netting her with one hand. All this while I had a bad case of the shakes (trout fever). I asked some strangers to take pics with my camera phone before it got dark. Next time I get a big one, I'll make sure to get some good pics with a good quality camera. Until then, good luck on big lake. I'll be going back out a few times between thursday and sunday.

Nice fish
Nice fish. Pictures can make a fish look big or small depending on how you hold it and the angle. Notice he is not holding the fish out away from his body, his elbows are bent. Holding a fish out away from your body can literally make a fish look twice it's size. I'll bet he's telling the truth. Everyone that doubts him can post their big fish and then, and only then, can they try and rain on his big fish. In fact, I noticed now we can post pictures in our responses! I have none close to that big, hence no picture. Nice fish!

i dont necessarily agree on some issues either, but to me its more of a 'raffle ticket system'

50 bucks for the chance at a boat or truck..

yeah
i think its the way he is holding it, the length is there it just looks thin but i think cause its tilted toward him and is not square with the pic. either way its a hawg man...

i don't do CCA cause i am not a fan of their actions so won't support the cause

trout
Nice trout either way.

It does appear to lack the girth and protrusion of abdominal contents that accompanies 9 pound trout of only 28 inches. It may be the way the pictures were taken that is causing people to call your bluff. If I had to base my experiences with large trout and evaluate your picture, I would say it 'appears' to be in the 7-7.25 pound range.

Solid #9
I doubt you know what you're talking about. I weighed it with a guy who was on a professional weight and measure team. We used two different scales. I also saw a couple 6 lb at the taxidermist, they weren't even close to the size of this one! It's okay though, I'd be jealous if i were you too. Here's a better pic with a little more clarity.
