Way to go Senator Vitter, thank you!!!
March 10, 2010

President Barack Obama
The White House
1600 Pennsylvania Ave. NW
Washington, D.C. 20500

Cc: NOAA Administrator Jane Lubchenco

Dear Mr. President and Administrator Lubchenco:

I write to express sincere opposition regarding the Interagency Ocean Policy Task Force Interim Framework for Effective Coastal and Marine Spatial Planning (“Interim Framework”). Although I have long supported reasonable policy mechanisms to enhance interagency coordination on oceans policy issues, the Interim Framework gives the impression that the administration is seeking to implement fundamental changes to both the regulatory structure and statutory authorities that form the basis for nearly every aspect of oceans management and use.

The Gulf of Mexico retains significant economic, cultural, and social importance to the state of Louisiana. If the intention of the Interim Framework is to create a new government superstructure headed by the National Ocean Council at the expense of the role of the states, which have primary jurisdiction for resident fish and wildlife, I can assure you that the states, in particular the Gulf states, will have zero tolerance for and much indignation over such a gross expansion of federal authority.

I urge the administration to back away from any efforts to supersede or diminish existing federal and state laws that govern our ocean fisheries for both commercial and recreational use. The Interim Framework brazenly calls for a top-down federal approach to every aspect of ocean management, and would impact every sector and every conceivable ocean activity without input from all stakeholders.

I can assure you that continued pursuit of the Interim Framework will exacerbate current concerns with NOAA’s ability to effectively manage the oceans for all users as well as mistrust and resentment of the agency. I respectfully request immediate public access to all comments and recommendations NOAA has delivered to the Council on Environmental Quality, as a well as a list of all Executive Orders and statutory and regulatory authorities the administration is contemplating utilizing in implementing Marine Spatial Planning and the Interim Framework.

I hope that your administration can keep in mind that the role of the government is to effectively manage resources for all citizens to enjoy with input from all stakeholders, not to cut off access to resources, like prohibiting commercial and recreational fishing, at the behest of a handful of special interest groups.

Sincerely,

David Vitter
U.S. Senator

A.c.man it wasn't your post, it was some of the earlier post that were bashing him for playing with hookers in washington, it was his fault he gave in, but we can't hold that against the only man that is fighting for us in Louisiana. Heck i don't know how many others are standing up in our freedoms but you have got to get behind the ones that do

best part
I for one could care less who's playing under the covers or desk. Just who's gettng the job done. As long as the job is getting done to our benfit, let him play with whoever he wants to. Cause i'm not going to judge him by what he has done in the bedroom, i'm judging him on his accomplishments. Judging, being as re-electing him, cause we are not to consider his personal actions, just those that help the people of Louisiana. Each and everyone of us are going to do wrong (just the spot light isn't on us) that's what makes us humans and christians.
In my opinion, WAY TO GO!!!!! Keep up the good work.
Anyone that stands up for our rights,is a step up from those who stand back and watch crap take place. I'm sorry for those of you that think you should slam him cause he steps up and takes charge, but also got caught messing around on his wife. Personal / Job never get the two mixed up. ALL WE SHOULD BE WORRIED ABOUT IS JOB PROFORMANCE

First thank you for doing what you did Mr. Vitter, but you have to accept part of the blame for us having a looser for president, because non of you'll can be trusted , what happened to officals being of upstanding character, we have become a country of business as usual and that not what my Father and his three brothers fought for on (D) day and world war II. But again thank you for what you did and take this comment as a lesson from a American that is sick over what he sees in Washington, we will not be the silent ones no more.

No
Beast what he means is exactly what he said, Vitter does whatever he needs to to get elected and i agree... I think morals and principles are tied... People see what he is fighting for now as strong principles... The problem is its hard for me to have faith in a person't principles when he totalyy violates them with his wife for his own personal satisfaction... What benefits him the most is more important to him than what is right.... And at some point that will carry over into his politics.. Yeah he is on your side right now but when put in situations where he has something to gain he will chose himself...

He is a typical Washington elitest politician. I am sick of these guys and want someone who stands for principles regardless of hus personal gain... Yeah i agree he is better than a liberal but all those people regardless of there party are corrupt and are ruining the country...
