Lake Martin
Ant,
Lake Martin is shown on USGS Quads as Lake Lapointe and also on many other maps. It is located 3 miles south of Breaux Bridge off of LA 31.

3 lb Sac
Bassfisher you are correct. I have yanked many 15 inch sac-o-lait out of Lake Martin, and none of them weighed more than 2 1/2 lbs. But to all the non-beleivers, there was a guy in a boat next to me last year that pulled one out the blinds that was every bit of 4 lbs! It was a huge white sac-o-lait that you could have put your fist in its mouth. I suggested the guy weigh it because I am sure it would have made the top 10 in the state record book but I never heard anything more of it.

3 lbs Sac
I don't think a 14" sac weights 3 lbs. I caught one in Lake Martin that was 15" and it weighed 2 1/4 lbs. And a friend of mine caught one the day before i caught mine in the same spot that was also 15".

Sounds like you are the only one catching fish in the lake. PLEASE show us the pics of all those huge fish you are catching and we may beleive it. But seriously man you do need to learn how to spell correctly. Your comments sound like a child is typing them.

Lake Martin 3 lb sac a laits
TteddyT - how about posting the pictures of those 3 lb sacs the old boy caught since he can't with his phone, for whatever reason. I admit that I do not know much more about cell phones than to answer and charge them. I have trouble remembering my cell number. I have only seen a few big sacs pulled out of the Lake that weren't caught on yo-yo's even though there should be a few there. Thanks, Ray

yoyo
I never fish with yoyo's. I like the jig pole. I use 2 B&M 8ft jig poles. One tightline and one with a cork.

LAKE MARTIN
Fished the Lake today and caught 8-4lb sac a lait, a 48" redfish, 4 rainbow trout and 2- 10lb flounders fishing with a Zebco 202 with cracked crab for bait. Will post pictures after seeing all those 3 lb sacs and the creek rises. Remember what we said about great fishermen, they all lie.

lake martin
I also fished the lake today. I usually go at least once a week even if the fish arent biting just because it is so close to home. I didnt catch anything all afternoon, bass or sacs. and everyone i talked to was doing just as poorly as I was. So southernbayouboys I would just like to say that if you think you know what you are talking about when it comes to fishing out there you should reconsider. You shouldnt beleive everything that people tell you or that you read about fishing. By the way, most people do not tell where they are hammering the fish at...

lake martin update
Well southernbayouboys I made my usual trip to lake martin today and there was about twice as many, if not more, boats than usual. Still the fact is like I had already told you before, there wasnt anyone that I talked to or saw that was catching. I actually didnt catch ome fish today. Fished all my usual good spots with not one bite. So I hope you keep getting your fishing info. from you so called friends and newspaper articles and waste your time fishing where you think they are biting instead of listening to someone who actually fishes there.

Fishing - "no brag just fact"
I am not bragging; but trying to make U understand what U need to do to catch fish. You'll never catch fish until you learn to read the weather, water flows and the areas you want to fish. The news is always too late and if they say the fish are biting go elsewhere as its already late. The fish and mainly the bait move a lot here because of lots of different reasons. Ex. I know a place in Henderson where I catch bass but only when the weather and waters are right. I learned after fishing there many times that there is also an old roadbed that runs thru there which influences this. When we were kids you could go to Henderson and catch an ice-chest full almost anytime in the spring but that doesn't happen very often now, too many fishermen and poor water flow, and I would not keep an ice-chest full today. Although I know folks that catch fish there year-round I'm not one of them. We also fished sacs only a foot deep with shiners back then and claimed it was the only way to catch. I learned better!!! Anyone can catch fish in LA if you know when/where to go and at what time of year they move. A bit of advice I will give you is to follow the bait and there will most likely be fish but if you give out your spots freely you will be fishing alone. Not trying to be a smartaleck just using almost 60 yrs of experience to try and help after reading some of your earlier posts. Good luck, Ray

Agree
I fully agree with Ray. I have fished Lake Martin and Spanish Lake for many decades. Nice sacs used to be caught there pretty regularly. I remember when LA Sportsman ran an article on how monster sacs were stacked up in Spanish Lake. Not long thereafter, trailers were backed up along the road leading to the launch. Spanish Lake is a very small lake. I am by no means an athlete but I can kayak across it. The sacs were depleted to the point that it is essentially a catfish and bass lake.

Lake Martin has bream and sacs. Though, not in the size that one would envision. Never has and never will. It is a fairly small lake as well. Because it is small ad fairly shallow, it takes warm weather before it really turns on. Even then, you will not get the size or numbers that you will in say Henderson (when the water is right) or Toledo Bend or even Cleco. fell free to take your son. I hope that you do well. Look for deeper/warmer water. But don't get too excited.

Daily Iberian
The Daily Iberian writes that the fish are biting anytime someone catches 2-3 fish anywhere. They and their like are the reason Spanish Lake was almost been fished out. They would write up big stories on the fish being caught and a hundred boats would be there the next day. Spanish Lake was like any other Lake. There was slabs there but the folks that fished it regularly would do the catching and the followers would show up after reading the reports of big catches. Eventually enough followers watched the regulars till they learned the spots and then told more followers till the Lake was almost fished out. LDWF put a slot on the bass because so many were being pulled out and almost pulled all the slabs(sacs) out leaving too few to reproduce.
If you read the reports on Lake Martin from last year most of the fish were pulled out from one duck blind that had been baited. The result, a continuous assault on that one blind, with boats flocking to it, while the rest of us were catching fish elsewhere. If there are as many fish in Lake Martin as folks say then there would at least be a bait shop and tournament's there. There are fish to be caught in our area but you must learn the area and when and at what times the fish bite in a certain area. Do yourselves a favor and quit trying to catch fish like Bill Dance and find you a spot and fish it. What you read in the papers and magazines is what people are paid to write in order to get you to spend money there not catch fish.
If you want to catch fish regularly then pick a spot and learn how to fish the area and stop living in fairy tale land. Most responsible fishermen will only tell where the fish are biting after they catch theirs and move on or the bite is almost finished. We want to be able to catch fish too especially after putting in the work and time.
We had an uncle that would fish with us and then play cards and tell everyone where/what we caught. Today he fishes by himself and none of HIS FRIENDS at the card table will help him with a spot to fish. Fishermen are like gamblers, they lie about what and where they catch, to keep their gravy to themselves. The losers are the ones giving out info. If not, folks would not be blocking off waterways to create their own private areas and to keep the word spreaders out. Good fishin', Ray

Fishery
Guess the Sportsman will ruin another lake. Pretty soon there will be 350 boats at Lake Martin just like the Ol Spanish lake. Best kept secrets are no more with this kind of news spredding like wildfires. They not bitting so dont waste your time.

lake martin is private property. my grandmother handed it down to me when she passed away. everybody who fishes there is trespassing. posted signs are going to be put all around the lake or the alligators will eat you. im saying this to warn anyone who fishes there that they are trespassing. and no the fish are not biting.

you can launch for free and there is a bait shop not far form the main road when you turn off if you coming from breaux bridge you have to pass up the road to lake martin and the first road to your left there is the store for bait in stuff good luck

Lake Martin
Does Lake Martin have a pay to launch or public launch? And is there a bait shop on the way? I promised my little boy I would take him fishing Saturday morning or evening a nice mess of sacs or event some nice sized bream sounds good. I think this will be some good practice for him until the specks start running.
