Venice Fishing

The fishing down in Venice is getting better every day with the temperatures and river going down. Each weekend, more and more boats are returning to Venice to catch up on the time missed fishing. Now is time to schedule your trips to get in on some of the fall action and load up the box full of fish. They're some places with overnite accommodation available; however, it is limited.

Catch And Release

Just my observation.Chartering here on the Bend since 75.It was common practice to put the knife to bass 12' and over a 45 three man limit.Did this for years, the fish were plentiful and everywhere.Things changed as time and tournament fishing became very popular and catch and release was born.I can tell you honestly that since that time fram , I get customers, 99% of them , that wont keep fish.SO, Is this a change in the making, option to get back out or what.Just my observation.JD

Camo

Just a quick comment,I dont know if anyone pays attention to the new product banner on the front page.Today there is a add for truck camo stencils.I have a Toyota SR-5 and been wanting to camo it for awhile .I saw this add a couple weeks ago,I ordered the kit and started this project last wk.So far I have the front fenders and hood finished , it really looks great, lots of camo trucks here nothing like this one.Lots of prep work, sanding etc.End result, worth it.Anyway, this product is the deal if you are wanting to give your hunting truck a fase-lift. When I finish I finish I will post pic's.As far as the fish the fall bight is getting close.JD

Lafitte Reds Sept. 5th

Late Sunday afternoon the winds finally layed down and the Red bite turned on. The last 2 hours of daylight was great with reds busting the water and chasing bait everywhere.
It was a blast to watch and hook up on those marsh reds!
All fish were caught on spoons and spinner baits.

Lafitte Reds Sept. 4th

Saturday morning we headed back to the areas we have been catching Reds in the marsh south of Lafitte for the last month or so (East Side of main canal). The wind was kicking our butt and if was hard to fish some of the banks we have done so well on so we moved into the ponds and found a few nice reds along the grass.
We caught our fish on gold and silver spoons along with spinner baits.

Federal Waters OPEN and we went to investigate!

Whatcha know last person that WhipaSnapa Charter Boat got to take out in the federal waters, would be the first to go when it opened back up!!! Yea, Mr. David Lambert had a lil inshore trip set up, but with the federal waters opening he decided that was were he belonged. So, hey lets do the dang thang!!!
Boy, it was great as we rounded the end of east Horn Island, da ol'mighty orange one was peeking up over the horizon an Capt. was grinning from ear to ear. South bound baby!!
So soon, man can you believe it, just weeks ago we thought it would be years. Our first stop, second, third, and fourth and so on, found that the snapper were in fine shape. Maybe, just a tad ..... Read More

Still Not Fall

Weekend Report

Wanted to really bounce around a lot this weekend and check as many areas as possible. The wind, which also had the tide blazing in, ruled a few areas out.

Headed out Saturday morning with Brian 'Sir Lunk-a-Lot' Baldwin and Tristan 'Area Rug' Daire. We started off in the deep passes but couldn't hold the bottom with a anchor so we headed to the marsh off of the ICW. Water was high and pretty dirty but we worked a few areas and 1 red and 3 specks hit the igloo. Decided to make a run to the other side of the Rigolets and try the lower Pearl area. Pounded the banks in a few different areas and 3 more reds and 4 bass joined the igloo. Ended the day fishing the drop-offs in ..... Read More

Seeing red on the 'DU.'

What a great day to be on the water Sunday was. Scott Foret and his boys Taylor and Ben wanted to get in on some of the great fishing action Dularge is having right now. My son Derek came along to help out. Our first plan was to look for trout then if time permitted chase a few reds. Checked the buoys at 4:00am and went to plan B, redfish! Felt like Drew Brees calling an audible as our new game plan could not have been better. Scott's young boys are wild, I'll tell you. They started slinging fish in the boat before I got the anchor set good. We were fishing with cracked crab and between cracking crabs and netting fish they about wore me out. Thanks to Scott for jumpimg right in and helping ..... Read More

Labor Day Redfish Slam!

Enjoyed a great 4 day weekend at the camp with family & friends. We fished the previous 3 days and today was no exception. The reds were eating up in the ponds this AM as I was joined by my son Chris and his friend Richard. We left the camp at 7:30 and back for 10:45. Catching in excess of 20 pond redfish was a blast with LSU chubs and white spinner baits doing the damage. We released every fish today.....took pictures and chunked them back. We fished out of my 17ft pro-drive and fished new areas I've never been too. Imagine fishing Dularge for almost 38 yrs and still can find new areas to fish! The new ponds paid off big time as we found schools of hungry reds that were only accessible ..... Read More

Dularge Reds

A beautiful morning in the marsh ! Plenty droves of bluewing teal this AM and all the reds we wanted. Didn't leave the camp until 7:45 and back for 10:45 with 15 nice reds. White spinnerbaits and LSU chubs worked best in the duckponds. Greg Givens joined Deadeye Chris and I with a good time enjoyed by all. Great weather for the Labor Day weekend as it felt like an October morning. Good luck fishing.

leeville still on

Havent fished leeville in a while. Got there sunday morning at 9 with wife and kids. Didnt fish hard just went to a new area and played. Found clean water and wife put some specs in the boat. I got to try my new Okuma trio 40 rigged with 10 pound test. Caught a nice 27 inch red and that reel is nice ...tried it on a few specs too. Ended with 30 only 4 whities. Most specs were 13-14. They liked chartreuse gulp minnow. Whitebeans saw your boat at terrys but didnt see you. Looks like specs in the bays still if you can avoid oil spill response boats everywhere. Specs in clean water 18 inches under cork.

Dularge Trout Slam

My dove hunting plans on Saturday did not materialize so there was nothing to do but go fishing. Not a bad move as we caught 100 trout and left them biting. Mostly 12-14in. fish but I'll take it for trout in Sept. Bayou chubs in various colors including all 3 of the brand new colors along with the LSU worked very well. Dead eye Chris Lake, Alex Gravois & Jessie Luquette whacked the trout and had fun doing it! Good luck fishing!

Tough day in Vermilion Bay

Planned a trip to Vermilion bay on Saturday. Weather man called for wind but no rain till the afternoon. 3 miles from the ramp I shredded 1 of my rear tires, limped to the ramp. Water was very high with the water flooding into the parking lot at the ramp. I should learn my lesson when they call for 13-15 mph winds. I decided to fish Marsh Island and had a very wet trip across the bay with winds out of the east. Fished the North entrance to Bayou Blanc in hopes for some reds. Water was very dirty. As usual, the weather man was wrong about the rain. Strong storms started heading from the South east about 8am. After sitting through 2 storms and no fish decided to get beat up crossing ..... GOOD TO BE FISHING

Great to be fishing, yesterday I helped out Capt Dude with a group. We started out in very windy conditions with a high tide and coming in hard. Got some live ones from Campo’s and headed to the outside edges in search of trout . Fished where we could out of the wind catching good bit of speckled trout but a lot were too small to keep but fun to catch. Around 9:30 a dozen or so in the box and the wind kicking up we decided to head for the marsh and try our luck with the reds. The redfish proved to be tough as well but I kept on the move and was determined to put box of fish together for thes guy’s. It was one fish here and there and it took awhile but the box was looking a lot better after ..... Read More

Did anyone do any good in the Spillway this weekend. I went to Pigeon and hit Grand Lake and few places in between, and did not do much. Just looking for some general reports (not locations, lures, etc). I fished it all, grass mats, structure, stained and clear water, so I was just wondering if it was the fisherman or the conditions that caused the slow day? Let me know...
