Venice Fishing!

Tuesday May 13,2008 I had one ladie onboard, but it was suppose to be her and her husband fishing with me for thier honey moon, but he was really sick and couldn't come with us and he told her to go ahead without him (what a nice guy). The lady really wanted some trout so I had to put my game face on and I did we hit the first spot and it was a one stop shop for both specks and reds. She was pretty hooked on live shrimp because she thought that was the only way you could catch them, well I broke out the Bayou Chubs and got her hooked on them, and now she doesn't want nothing to do with live shrimp! We finished the day with our limit of Trout(50)and our limit of Reds(10). To book a trip call ..... Read More

Lake Verrett Brim Biting?

I was wondering if the brim were biting in Lake Verrett or somewhere closer to Baton Rouge. I have 2 friends and we have kayaks. We're trying to find a place to fly fish or catch some brim, catfish or sac-a-lait on flyrod or spinning reel.

If you have any info as where to go or a map would help as well. We are recreational fishermen just trying to go have a good time. Not hear to be stealing your hotspots. I just want to show them a good time on the water. Thanks for whatever you can give out.

I just noticed a bit of drive oil leaking from a small hole in my outboard. I have an Evinrude ETEC 150. Before I talk to the dealer, does anyone else with a 150 have a small hole on their engine like mine? Have you ever had drive oil leaking from it? Only have 19 hours on the engine. Let me know what you think.

Not a bad day!!! They're still here!!!

There's still some pigs in the Ponchartrain!!!

Fished the afternoon at the trestles today. The water wasn't too dirty and the lake was smooth. Around 6, the trout started biting and I managed to snag a couple. One trout launched himself at least two feet out of the water when he realized he was hooked. It was cool! I ended up with 3 nice trout, the biggest was 22"! I think we'll be OK from the spillway!!!

Fishing Magician Charters

Today we had 3 boats running. Capt. Jason had Harold, David, and Bill on their second day of fishing. Capt. Lester had the members of the BRM Hunting Club: Ronald Hubenals, Gerald Hubenals, and Darrell Montgomery. I had the pleasure of fishing with: Mark, Dale, and Ralph.

You can see it was a great day in the Sound and in Bay Eloi today. There were quite a few fish caught. Everyone caught fish!! All three boats limited out today with the total of:
250 Speckled trout
8 Reds
4 Sheepshead
These three groups of guys were great to fish with. It's nice to meet good people.

All fish were caught 3' under a popping cork using live shrimp. So, if you want to ..... Read More

Mercury Verado users

Hello all,

I am looking at a few different motors and have been reading up on the Verado's specs and performance. For those of you who own or have owned one and use it in saltwater, what are your thoughts? Have there been many maintenence issues with them? Do they you find they need to go in the shop much? They look like the top of the line 4-stroke outboards available today; but if you wouldn't mind sharing your experiences...good or bad...particularly bad...with me that would be great!

Thanks!

Incredible Dularge Trout Fishing

Big numbers of yellow-mouths "DOWN IN DULARGE"! Its been terribly windy but we're still whacking the trout. Everything caught on plastic........LSU chubs, singles or in tantem!!! NO LIVE BAIT NEEDED! Easy pickins yesterday in the NE winds with 75 nice trout. Tony Crochet & Marvin Soignet got a taste of what its all about! First time they ever caught fish on artificial lures. They're hooked for sure now! Today was semi-calm as we pulled away from the "REEL-IN" but only for about 90 minutes as the ESE winds started ripping by 8:30AM. No problem as we already had 65-70 trout on ice! We had to work fast this morning and Marty Fugular, Bert Chatagnier, and David LeBlanc ..... Read More

25" Red

Weatherman missed it again!

Fished Cocodrie on Monday 5/12 in my 2230 Bay Stealth. Weatherman called for 5-7 mph winds but woke up to 15-20 mph winds out of the east. Tried to get out to Last Island in the morning. We started heading out but turned around due to the muddy water and very rough conditions. We fished in the marsh till about 2pm and the wind seemed to die down a bit after that. We headed out to Last Island and finished the day with 30 Specks, 1 Flounder. Enjoyed a good fight with a Shark as well but he broke off before being able to see him next to the boat. We caught one 25" Red in the marsh due east of the Water Tower. We also fished in the marsh West of the Water Tower. Anybody have any ..... Read More

Fishing Venice, La.

The fishing has been good. Variety is starting to get back into the game as the dolphin and cobia are starting to show up. No big numbers yet but it is coming. The weather has been the biggest factor, as it has been a lot so far this year. The winds are still not cooperating like I had hoped they would be at this point in May. This Saturday Capt. Josh B. had the Dexter Smith crew, they ended their day with two wahoo and four A.J.'s, Capt. Bob had part of the Adrian Flores bachelor party group and they finished their day with 1 Yellow fin , 1 Cobia, and two Amberjack. As soon as they pulled up to the tuna hole they immediately got one on and then the group decided they wanted to try for ..... Read More

Grand Isle Surf Trout

Made a trip down to the Island this morning for some more surf trout. Had the pleasure and just plain fun of fishing with Captain Danny Wray of Calmwater Charters.

Wind Speed: 12 mph
Wave Height: 2 ft. (Knee-high) Wilt Chamberlain’s knees
Sea State: Moderate chop
My butt!

We had to go into their house today, which meant wading across a neck deep hole, crossing a sandbar, and fishing in the rollers. Windy, rough, and cold; and plenty of nice trout! Grand Isle is HOT! Fish behind Bridge Side with plastics, topwaters, and Grand Isle Golden Croakers. Can’t wait to go back. How dem waders work for u Danny? They sure are waterproof. Inside AND out! Thanks for a lot of fun.

A past due Thank You

Hey everyone,

I've got a good story about how there are still good people out in the world. And I really appreciate what you did for me. I don't know your name and have never met you but you got me out of a big jam.

I am 22 years old and last April I bought my first boat. Its just a small beat up caroline skiff J16 but I love it and it has never let me down. I used to fish the Rigolets a lot when I first got it because it is close to New Orleans and a straight shot down I-10. But, I made a big mistake after i bought it. I waited too long to have the boat put in my name and that came back to bite me one day coming back home. I hadn't sent in the paper work yet, but i carried it with ..... Read More

advice

Redeye, would you mind sending me an e-mail with some tips and tricks about what bait to use at different times of the year, what technique you use for a redfish and a speck, some good spots on the lake, and how to work a topwater bait in rough water. Also, if the water is really rough where are some other spots besides the weirs can you go to get away from the rough water?

PS: Going fishing this Saturday and on the 26th! Probably going to hang around Commensary Point and drift and/or anchor along the oyster reefs there.

Thanks,

daboatman
