The bass fishing in general has been slow. A lot of short fish being caught shallow but the bigger fish have been harder to come by. With cooler temperatures, watch for schooling activity to increase. Traps, blades, and top water plugs will produce good numbers of fish when they are schooling. The pattern has been holding much the same as the past couple weeks. Early and late, top water plugs, spinner baits and buzz baits fished over shallow grass beds and around lily pads in white and white/chartreuse working best. When sun gets overhead back out to the edge of the grass line. Wacky worms, lizards, and worms producing best in sour grape, watermelon, red shade, red bug and crabapple. Bigger fish are being caught in 16 to 18 ft. of water but the bite is slow. Texas or Carolina rigs working best.

Start watching for the White bass to move onto the sand bars and along the timber lines around the old river channel. Spoons, Rinky Dinks, and small traps will produce the best. Keep a shallow diving crank bait or top water plug handy if they start schooling.

Crappie starting to bunch up over brush tops along the river channel shelf and ledges. Shiners working best in 16 to 18 ft of water. The Crappie will only get better as the water continues to cool. Barring any drastic water fluctuations, we should have a good season.
